Yuki Tanaka completed her doctorate at the University of Tokyo in computational neuroscience, developing Bayesian models of how the brain infers hidden environmental states. At the Institute, she built a computational psychiatry program, creating theoretical frameworks that connected abnormal decision-making patterns to underlying neural disruptions. Her work generated significant visibility for computational approaches to understanding psychiatric conditions, resulting in nine publications and three collaborative grants. She mentored postdoctoral fellows in both computational and empirical methods, helping bridge the gap between simulation and neurobiology. Tanaka left in 2015 to lead the Computational Psychiatry Unit at Kyoto University.
